National Foster Care Month Highlights Thousands of Children in Need of Families
Sean and Barbara Smith of Lubbock, Texas adopted their three youngest daughters through foster care after raising five children.
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) May 03, 2011
More than 31,000 children are in the foster care system in Texas; 6,000 of them are ready for adoption. May is National Foster Care Month and Buckner Children and Family Services is raising awareness about the needs of abused and neglected children while seeking loving foster families to meet the demand.
?Every child deserves a family,? said JoAnn Cole, senior director of family programs at Buckner International. ?At Buckner, we believe that foster care is not a lifetime commitment to a child, but a commitment to be meaningful in a child?s lifetime. When you become a Buckner foster parent, you have the opportunity to be instrumental in changing a child?s life.?
Buckner currently serves more than 560 children through foster care each year across the state of Texas. Foster parents can be single or married and are willing to accept temporary placement of a child in their home. They are supported through ongoing training, home visits, financial compensation, and on-call assistance.

Buckner Children and Family Services is a Christian ministry which has been caring for vulnerable children and families since 1879.
