92% Headhunters

All Critics (85) | Top Critics (22) | Fresh (78) | Rotten (7)

"Headhunters" is an absurd amount of grisly fun, which is a good thing, since, looked at in any great detail, it probably doesn't hold up all that well.

'Headhunters" is a frighteningly well-made thriller about an amoral art thief on the run.

"Headhunters" is a bit like an Ikea desk assembled with your nondominant arm -- sleek and attractive, but likely to fall to pieces if you look at it too hard.

"Headhunters" will indeed hand you your head.

A cat-and-mouse game with the giddy excitement of a heist movie.

It's crisp entertainment even as plot absurdities gum up the works - you can almost hear the pages turn as you watch.

Headhunters (Hodejegerne) is a roiling Norwegian mix of Hitchcock and Wile E. Coyote, with a generous dose of feces and blood. Headhunters is a mind game. And a blood sport.

... sort of like being mugged by a banshee: It's all very loud and exciting and after it's over you're left with a vague feeling of unease to go along with the lighter wallet.

The film holds its twists too close to the chest, and there's little to chew on till the ambitiousness of its plotting is revealed late in the film.

By film's end, we're deep into Coen brothers territory, with an extra splash of Sam Raimi-level gore.

a twisted and twisting take on the potentially lethal outcomes of male ego and insecurity, which find their greatest embodiment in capitalism at its most aggressive

Sleek and relentless, it's a provocative, darkly comedic thriller.

Suspenseful, wickedly funny and clever, Headhunters offers more bang for your buck than most modern crime thrillers.

"Headhunters" isn't a pretty film, and it doesn't always entirely make sense, but it races along like a man chased by killers.

The good guy in the Norwegian "Headhunters" looks like a bad guy, and the bad guy looks like a good guy. And that's just one of the ways this dazzling movie messes with us.

HEADHUNTERS is an exhilarating thriller with great visual flare, top notch acting, and a story that will have you so involved that you'll possibly have no fingernails by the end of it!

Like a Teutonic techno band, this thriller is both skillfully familiar and chillingly strange.

...a sordid blast of delirious violence, brutal corporate satire, and male inadequacy.

This is one funny, gory, high-class crime thriller and my favorite Norwegian export since 'Troll Hunter.'

Do yourself a favor and see this one before some Yank director gets it all wrong.

Headhunters is a slick entertainment with well-orchestrated chases and bloody shootouts, though its characterizations are shallow and sketchy.

Microsoft Announces New Mice And Keyboards Designed Specifically For Windows 8

In anticipation of the final public release of their new all-singing all-dancing Windows 8 operating system, Microsoft has been hard at work behind the scenes deploying their engineering teams into projects that have resulted in the announcement and launch of a range of new mice and keyboards that have been designed to make using Windows 8 a lot easier. The Redmond company have called on all of their thirty plus years experience to create hardware which they hope will allow users to get the most out of their new OS and take advantage of everything it provides.

As part of the announcement, Microsoft have informed the public that the new hardware will be available ?soon? via the Microsoft online store as well as the official retail channels and other registered Microsoft dealers. Even though Microsoft have high hopes from Windows 8, they obviously also recognize that success is no longer as simple as pumping out a decent version of Windows with more users appreciating the seamless integration of hardware and software which companies like Apple provide. To truly capture the imagination of PC owners, they have acted in the perfect way by creating and announcing this exciting range of mice and keyboards.

Excited users can expect to see two new keyboards hitting the market place when the release switch is eventually flipped, as well as two new corresponding mice that are intended to work as a set. A timely update to their existing Touch Mouse product is also on the cards to bring additional functionality and compatibly with the new Windows 8 software.

The new Wedge Touch Mouse is designed around what Microsoft is calling an ultra compact frame and is predominantly intended to be used in conjunction with a mobile device. With built-in four-way touch scrolling, the product is a perfect example of a functional and highly feature rich mouse for use on the move. The fact that it is Bluetooth enabled means that it will work with any Bluetooth compatible laptop, computer or tablet and remains entirely free from wires. Microsoft have also incorporated BlueTrack technology into the Wedge Touch Mouse as well as a feature that enables the mouse to power cycle in conjunction with the connected machine for battery preservation. When released, the Wedge Touch Mouse will retail for around the $70 mark.

Wolf Looking for Love Finds None in California

By Jeff Barnard / The Associated Press

A wandering Oregon wolf that has been out looking for love has gotten the cold shoulder from people in one Northern California county.

Citing fears that if wolves move into the area they will attack cattle, Tehama County supervisors have told the California Fish and Game Commission that they oppose putting the predators on the state?s endangered species list.

The county officials said in a letter this week that ?experience in other states suggests that control of wolf populations will become difficult if not impossible? if wolves are listed as endangered because protection efforts are ?not based on scientific evidence, but rather on ethical and moral concerns.?

Supervisor Ron Warner said a public meeting on wolves hosted by a conservation group drew as big a crowd as when the county imposed restrictions on medical marijuana.

?The cattlemen were really up arms,? he said. ?These people are adamant about the fact they don?t want the wolf reintroduced down here. We?ve got a big enough fight going on with the mountain lions.?

The wolf known as OR-7 has been roaming Northern California looking for a mate and a new territory since last winter, when he became the first of his species in the state in more than 80 years.

His travels have been tracked by a GPS collar that reports his location several times a day. OR-7 has not been linked to any attacks on livestock, though he has apparently fed on a pile of beef bones left out by a rancher.

Most recently he has been roaming a rugged high-altitude region marked by dense forests, lakes and open meadows on public lands between Butte and Plumas counties, roughly halfway between Sacramento and the Oregon border, said Karen Kovacs, regional wildlife program manager for the California Department of Fish and Game. He has made brief forays into neighboring Tehama County.

?He is still exhibiting a fair amount of daily movement, which suggests to us he is in good health, and finding enough to eat,? Kovacs said.

Noah Greenwald of the Center for Biological Diversity said they want a state endangered species listing in case federal Endangered Species Act protections are dropped. They also want to see a plan developed to assure wolves return to healthy populations in California, where they were wiped out more than 80 years ago to protect livestock.

The California Department of Fish and Game is to report to the commission during its Aug. 8-9 meeting in Ventura on whether protecting the wolf is warranted.

A public hearing on the question is scheduled for the commission?s Oct. 3-4 meeting in Sacramento.

Home Improvements You Can Easily Pay For | Home Improvement ...

Some home improvements are expensive, but not all of them have to be. You have to save money and budget long-term for some of the bigger home improvement projects like remodeling your living room, fixing your roof, and other large-scale projects. But with smaller projects, you can use options like open door loans to pay for them, and that way you don?t even have to break into your savings or plan long ahead to afford them. Smaller projects are often the better ones, as they allow you more value for your money and let you accomplish things in a shorter amount of time.

Gardening

To give an example, you can use open door loans to get your garden fixed up and looking good for the summer season. A garden is something that adds tremendous value to your home, and which you can easily make look very good with the money you get from open door loans.? You can borrow the money, do the work, and still have plenty of cash left over for when your paycheck comes through.

Kitchen Upgrades

The kitchen is probably one of the rooms in your house that you use most frequently, because you and your family definitely need to eat. And getting better equipment, nicer decorations, and higher-quality appliances into your kitchen is both affordable and extremely practical. For just a few hundred pounds from the open door loans you could completely change your kitchen, upgrade all the equipment, and make your cooking space effective and enjoyable to work in again.

Utility Efficiency

One home improvement that it?s extremely worth it to borrow open door loan money for is to improve your home utilities and power supplies. Energy efficiency is lacking in most homes, and if you decide to take out an open door loan to start upgrading it, then that?s another job that will pay for itself in time. You can get the open door loans, switch out all your inefficient and energy-draining appliances, bulbs, and utilities, start using more effective items, and watch as your energy bills drop way down. If that doesn?t seem like the perfect home improvement strategy to you, then there?s nothing that is.

Open door loans are easy to qualify for and fast to receive as you can read here on www.opendoorloan.co.uk. They?re really the ideal option for anyone looking to do home improvements, as they provide that short-term financial boost that you need to get on your feet and start getting things done. Girl found safe in Ohio after 3 shot dead in Penn. home

QUINCY, Pa. (AP) ? A man in south-central Pennsylvania confronting his wife about custody arrangements for their daughter shot to death three people, then fled with the 4-year-old girl before the two were found about 250 miles away in Ohio, authorities said Saturday.

Kevin Matthew Cleeves was trying to contact his wife Friday to make arrangements to pick up his daughter Leia, but she didn't answer the phone, so he went to a home in Quincy Township, the (Waynesboro) Record-Herald (http://bit.ly/O5EeFX) reported, citing court records.

Police said Cleeves, 35, found a woman and man sitting in a car and began arguing with them, then was ordered to leave. He then shot to death both of them and another woman and took the girl, authorities alleged.

An Amber Alert was issued Friday night but was canceled hours later after the pair were found in Austintown in northeastern Ohio, outside Youngstown.

Cleeves was arrested in the three deaths Friday night in Quincy Township, Pennsylvania state police Trooper Adam Reed. Police had said earlier that Cleeves should be considered "armed and dangerous as well as suicidal." Cleeves was charged with three counts of criminal homicide Saturday, according to court records.

Reed would not give other information about the deaths, including the names of the victims and their relationship to Cleeves, but said more details would be released later Saturday. Court records did not list an attorney for Cleeves.

US cruises to lead in men's gymnastics qualifying

LONDON (AP) ? The Americans insisted for months they can contend for the Olympic title in men's gymnastics.

Another night like this, and they won't need to say a word. The color of their medals will do the talking for them.

While perennial gymnastics powerhouses China and Japan bobbled and wobbled their way through qualifying Saturday, the Americans proved they've got the big skills to back up their big hopes. They didn't count a single fall, and their final score of 275.342 was almost three points ahead of resurgent Russia.

"We're going to do everything we can to make it finish like that," team captain Jonathan Horton said. "I was actually joking ... earlier, 'Can we just get the medals now?' But we've got one more day to go, and we're pumped about it."

The team final is Monday. Since 1997, when scoring began starting anew in the final, only three first-day winners have failed to finish atop the podium at either the Olympics or world championships.

Surprising Britain, which has a full men's at the Olympics for the first time since 1992, hung onto third place after upstaging China in the first of the day's three sessions. Germany is fourth.

Japan, the heavy favorite coming in, is fifth after several uncharacteristic errors by three-time world champion Kohei Uchimura. Defending Olympic champion China, which has won the last five world titles, is sixth after a splat-filled day. Ukraine and France rounded out the top eight.

"We studied a lot about the American team already," said Japanese coach Yasunori Tachibana, who sent a scouting party to last month's Olympic trials. "So we knew it was going to be pretty tough."

Unlike qualifying, when teams get to drop their lowest score, there will be no margin of error in Monday's final. Teams compete three gymnasts on each event, and all three scores count. Botch one routine, and it could be the difference between going home with a gold medal or a souvenir T-shirt.

But the Americans believe they're actually better built for that high-risk, high-reward formula, and this performance will only fuel their confidence that they can join Bart Conner and his Golden Gang of '84 as the only U.S. teams to win the Olympic title.

Danell Leyva posted the highest individual score while John Orozco was fourth, and the team had the highest total on floor exercise and high bar. They had only three falls the entire day, and counted only four scores below 15. Every American ? Leyva, Orozco, Horton, Jake Dalton and Sam Mikulak ? made at least one individual final.

"Now is when everyone is finally, completely realizing how much we believe in it and today was definite huge proof of that," Leyva said.

The day didn't look so promising at the start, when Horton went spinning off pommel horse, his worst event and the team's. But the Americans have an unshakable belief in themselves, and they barely blinked at the miscue. Mikulak, Leyva and Orozco followed with stylish sets more typical of the Japanese or Chinese, and wound up finishing their toughest event in decent shape.

After slowly closing the gap on each event, the Americans finally took the lead with one high bar routine more dazzling than the next.

Orozco set the tone, getting such great air on his release moves he could almost make eye contact with the folks hanging out on the first concourse. Horton was up next. He's been struggling on high bar the last few months, but there was no cover-your-eyes-and-hide-the-children scariness this time. Once, twice, three times he tossed himself up and over the bar, flipping and twisting before coming down and easily grabbing it.

When his feet hit the mat with a solid thud, he pumped his fists and smiled.

"I jumped up there, man on a mission-type thing," said Horton, who stood at the edge of the podium afterward and popped his uniform so everyone could see the "U-S-A" across his chest. "I was really aggressive. I caught all my releases really well ? my last one was just kind of finger-tipped."

Leyva closed the show, drawing oohs and aahs from the crowd with his big release moves. When he did a little hop while in a handstand, the audience actually laughed.

With more than a point lead over the British, the Americans let loose on floor exercise. An admiring murmur rippled through the crowd when Leyva, balancing on his hands, pulled his legs up and over his head so his knees touched his nose. When he finished, his stepfather and coach, Yin Alvarez, yelled, "That was super good!"

Dalton capped it off with a routine that rivals all others for power and elegance. He actually looked as if he might go out of bounds on one tumbling run, but had the presence to pulls his toes back, almost as if he was retracting them back into his feet.

"It was kind of an exclamation point to end the day," Mazeika said.

Fans at the O2 Arena ? where American flags, T-shirts and signs seemed to be everywhere ? erupted in applause when the final scores were posted. The U.S. men looked up from their huddle and noted the marks with a few fist pumps.

"We definitely can carry on the confidence," Mikulak said. "We just want to stay humbled to make sure we go out and perform to the best of our ability."

The Japanese, meanwhile, need to figure out how they got so far off track.

Normally so graceful and precise that coaches use DVDs of their routines as teaching tools, the Japanese looked disoriented. Kazuhito Tanaka made four big errors in his first three events, including a botch on high bar that left him wildly swinging one-handed, like a child on the monkey bars.

Uchimura's performance was downright baffling. The only man to win three world titles has been so sublime since winning the silver medal in Beijing that Germany's Philipp Boy, runner-up at worlds the last two years, has joked he was born in the "wrong age." That Uchimura would cement his status as the greatest gymnast ever with the all-around title was all but a given.

But he fell on high bar, not even getting close on a release move. He then spun off pommel horse, getting up with a baffled look. He rallied from there, however, and wound up a shocking ninth in the individual scoring.

"I think more or less we all were thinking about how China was doing today, so it might have affected our performance," Uchimura said through a translator.

The Chinese have run roughshod over the gymnastics world for much of the last decade. But Chen Yibing and Zou Kai are the only holdovers from the Beijing gold rush, and China is no longer in a class by itself.

China's air of invincibility took its first hit at last year's world championships, where the Chinese finished behind Japan and the United States in qualifying. Yes, it was only qualifying, and they still left the event as they always do ? with index fingers held high in the air and gold medals around their neck. But it was the first time since Athens that they failed to finish first in every phase of a major competition.

A reduction in team size, from six gymnasts in Beijing to five in London, hurt the Chinese even more. After building their team around one- or two-event specialists for so many years, they've been left with gaping holes in their lineups.

What hurt the Chinese most Saturday was simple sloppiness ? shocking for a team once known for its impeccable execution. Chen's parallel bars routine wouldn't cut it for a high school gymnast. Zou Kai, the reigning gold medalist on high bar, barely made the final after a routine that was almost indifferent. Guo Weiyang, pressed into service Wednesday after 2004 pommel horse gold medalist Teng Haibin dropped out with an arm injury, fell on his face on his dismount on floor exercise.

"We're not really disappointed because it's been four years and the competitors are improving, there's less discrepancy in their level," Chen said through a translator. "We are still confident in the final."

Jay Jaffe: Should the Texas Rangers trade Josh Hamilton?

Josh Hamilton has been feeling the heat from his bosses during a summer-long slump. (Landov)

The trading deadline is now four days away, and the Rangers have yet to strike. Indeed, all eyes are on general manager Jon Daniels as he sizes up the market for ways to improve the two-time defending American League champions, who are tied with the Yankees for the league?s best record at 59-39. Particularly with the loss of Colby Lewis to a torn flexor tendon and the uncertainty about Roy Oswalt?s balky lower back, Daniels? primary focus is on a frontline starting pitcher to shore up his rotation, and while his lineup doesn?t have any glaring holes, the team has scored just 3.44 runs per game this month en route to an 8-10 record. At the center of the sluggish offense is Josh Hamilton, who has admitted a lack of focus after being called out by both president/CEO Nolan Ryan and manager Ron Washington.

Here?s a thought from leftfield regarding the star leftfielder (and occasional centerfielder): The Rangers should consider trading Hamilton. On the surface, the idea might seem outrageous, and perhaps even heartless, given the support network the team has worked hard to build in order to aid the slugger in his ongoing battle against substance abuse. But particularly at this time of year, reminders that baseball is a business are everywhere, with underperforming teams stripped for parts as they look to the future rather than wallow in the recent past. Hamilton, a pending free agent, rebuffed the Rangers? efforts to sign him to a contract extension earlier this season, and while he has expressed a desire to return, he presents a whole lot of risk. He?s an elite hitter, at least when he?s healthy and focused, but he is also 31 years old and physically fragile, averaging just 114 games per season from 2009-2011 while serving stints on the disabled list for an oblique strain, a sports hernia, lower back woes, broken ribs, and a broken humerus. Admittedly, some of those injuries are traumatic ones that aren?t particularly likely to recur, but back and muscular problems don?t disappear with age, particularly for players on the wrong side of 30.

Hamilton jumped out to a ridiculously hot start this year, hitting .368/.420/.764 with 21 homers through the end of May, including a record-tying four-homer game on May 8 in Baltimore. Those numbers not only gave him a leg up on winning his second AL MVP award, they pointed towards a rare opportunity for a freshly anointed MVP winner to hit the free agent market. Not since Barry Bonds became a free agent after the 1992 and 2001 seasons has that year?s winner reached free agency, though one could also include Alex Rodriguez after he opted out in 2007, not that any team besides the Yankees could afford him.

Before Hamilton could clear his mantel for another trophy, he fell into a prolonged slump, hitting .223/.318/.436 with four home runs in June, and .154/.230/.308 with three homers ? and just seven other hits ? so far in July. The Rangers didn?t suffer too badly in June; while their scoring dipped to 4.82 runs per game (down from 5.71 in the two months prior), they went 19-9. But now the offense has really hit the skids, and Hamilton has shown no signs of emerging, going 1-for-15 in his last four games, and 6-for-42 since the All-Star break. Ryan says his star is giving at-bats away by swinging at bad pitches and failing to work deep into counts. Indeed, his swinging strike rates in June (21.6 percent) and July (22.6 percent) both lead the majors, as does this month?s out-of-zone swing rate of 50.9 percent. Hamilton, who has played in 90 of his team?s 97 games, has admitted that he?s ?out of sorts mentally,? and that his problems aren?t physical.

While trading a player in the throes of a slump isn?t ideal, Hamilton would instantly become the best bat on the market in terms of his overall 2012 production (.287/.356/.587 for a .315 True Average, 11th in the league), to say nothing of his track record (.306/.365/.548 career) or his upside. Even for a two-month rental, trading him would probably net a couple of top prospects, or a prospect and a usable stopgap outfielder. The Reds, for whom Hamilton played in 2007 (and for whom Hamilton?s ?accountability partner,? Johnny Narron, worked), would be a good fit: they need a centerfielder (Drew Stubbs is struggling mightily). That said, their system was hit hard by the Mat Latos deal, and they?re said to desire a right-handed bat given that their righties have hit just .245/.300/.391 this year. The Rays, who originally drafted Hamilton in 1999, could be another fit. Their offense has wheezed in the absence of Evan Longoria, they certainly have prospects that could be put towards the acquisition of a starting pitcher elsewhere, and could offer their own pending free agent outfielder, B.J. Upton, in return ? or they could work out a blockbuster involving James Shields, whom the Rangers are said to be considering as an alternative to Zack Greinke.

Could the Rangers withstand Hamilton?s loss? They hold a five-game lead over the Angels in the AL West, with the A?s just 5 1/2 back as well. Their odds of making the playoffs stand at 99 percent according to Baseball Prospectus. Considering that they won the AL West in each of the past two seasons with Hamilton missing a total of 70 games, it?s hardly an outrageous proposition. They would almost certainly need to add another outfielder to a mix that includes lefty David Murphy (.279/.374 /459, with only 36 plate appearances against southpaws), and righties Craig Gentry (a BABIP-driven .339/.398/.437) and Nelson Cruz (a disappointing .258/.320/.438). Add a player such as the Phillies? switch-hitting Shane Victorino (another pending free agent) or the righty-swinging Upton and the Rangers wouldn?t tilt too heavily to one side, though the latter is actually struggling mightily against southpaws. Such a move would put pressure on Cruz, Mike Napoli (.232/.349/.438) and Michael Young (a dismal .270/.299/.346) to recover some semblance of their prior form, but all have long track records of hitting well, and barring injury are better bets to improve their current numbers than to slump even further.

Trading Hamilton isn?t a necessity for the Rangers to reach the playoffs and make another run at a world championship, and it?s probably something that has less than a 10 percent chance of happening as things currently stand. Admittedly, it would be a shocking move, one that might not be popular with a fan base that has supported Hamilton through thick and thin. The team receiving the slugger would assume no small risk given his admission regarding his current state of mind as well as his track record for finding trouble. But so would the Rangers, who would take on a much different look than the unit that that currently leads the league in scoring at 5.03 runs per game and that has used a good deal of brute offensive force to become an AL powerhouse. Trading Hamilton just might be the move that helps Texas get over the top, and if so, it would be something the fans could forgive. Free agents come and go, but flags fly forever.

Abstract

American resistance to accepting evolution is uniquely high among First World countries. This is due largely to the extreme religiosity of the United States, which is much higher than that of comparably advanced nations, and to the resistance of many?religious?people to the facts and supposed implications of evolution. The prevalence of?religious?belief in the United States suggests that outreach by scientists alone will not have a huge effect in increasing the acceptance of evolution, nor will the strategy of trying to convince the faithful that evolution is compatible with their religion. Because creationism is a symptom of religion, another strategy to promote evolution involves loosening the grip of faith on America. This is easier said than done, for recent sociological surveys show that religion is highly correlated with the dysfunctionality of a society, and various measures of societal health show that the United States is one of the most socially dysfunctional First World countries. Widespread acceptance of evolution in America, then, may have to await profound social change.

We all love a good protest, but eschewing confrontation gives ...

July 29, 2012

Here?s perhaps the most intriguing observation I came upon in my five years of fieldwork on responsible investment. Sitting in an elegant whitewashed office in New York, curated African art on the walls, a white-haired financier explained to me why he took to responsible investment. ?In the 1960?s,? he explained, ?if you wanted to communicate with Bank of America, one way was to stand outside the corporate headquarters and throw a rock at the building.? By contrast, nowadays corporations such as Wal-Mart sit down with responsible investors to discuss their labor, environmental or governance policies.

Movements, the gentleman seemed to imply, could now leverage capitalism?s own mechanisms to reshape the system. Too good to be true?

A symposium in the upcoming Academy of Management in Boston explores precisely this issue. That is, the non-confrontational tactics that movements deploy to reshape the corporate agenda. It is organized by Fabrizio Ferraro, Brayden King and myself. And it will benefit from the comments of Huggy Rao (author of?Market Rebels).

Here?s the session description from the official conference site:

Social movements have recently focused their activity on direct influence over corporations by targeting consumers and investors. Most studies of this trend have emphasized confrontational means such as protests and boycotts. But confrontation is not the only way to exert influence. The proposed symposium explores alternative tactics movements deploy. One is shaping the public discourse, such as shifting management attention towards more sustainable technologies. Another is shareholder engagement, which provides opportunities for activists to express their voice. A ?big tent? approach could also be deployed to gain legitimacy for the emerging field of responsible investing. And last, corporations are also becoming active agents in supporting boycotts of competing firms, thus borrowing from the repertoire of movements.

Guest Article: SMS and customer relationships | 160Characters ...

Alfie Ladeira, Product Manager for HP Exstream explains why SMS messaging is a game changer in the future of customer communications software and why it is key to ensuring profit margins are maintained

Faced with an increasingly challenging market, businesses including utilities companies, banks and telecommunication organisations are coming up with innovative ways such as communicating via SMS to ensure customer satisfaction and maintain customer retention. Historically consumers have been reluctant to change either their energy service provider or their bank account. On average only 8% of people switch their current account per annum and you are more likely to get divorced than you are to switch your utilities service provider.

However, this is all set to change, with the challenging economic climate consumers are for the first time ever willing to shop around to ensure they get the best deal. Added to this, the recent changes in RDR regulations (Retail Distribution Review) means that financial organisations of all sizes now need to ensure they have rigorous document and financial processes in place. We?ve had SMS messaging integrated in the customer communications management (CCM) systems we offer for several years, but in the past two years there has been a dramatic increase in the number of consumers demanding communication via SMS.

Some service providers are pursuing increasingly drastic methods to win over new customers and encouraging them to switch. One Irish energy company even offered cash back incentives to inspire customers to sign up to their service.

In March, Sprint and Cisco created a unified communications platform, which allowed customers to manage their data through the Cloud. This service enabled management of accounts through integrated messaging and enhanced mobile integration. However, although this can seem quite complex there are a few simple things which service providers can do to build customer relationships and ensure long term customer loyalty. This can be as simple as operating an effective customer communications strategy through preferred communication methods such as SMS, email and mobile applications.

Consumers and employees are now more mobile than ever and expect communication directly to their tablet or mobile device. This means that multi platform communication is now an essential tool for companies aiming to reach a high level of customer satisfaction.

According to a 2011 survey by Ovum a record 7.5 trillion SMS messages were sent that year and between January and October smartphone usage rose from 30% to 45% of the population. The use of mobile is a key change in the way we communicate. This has meant consumers are demanding access to their information, including bank statements and bills across multiple mobile channels.

As a result, every industry needs to design their communications platform to contact customers across a variety of channels and formats, including SMS messaging. We?re seeing SMS messaging benefiting customers when they?re in the form of vital alerts, for instance banks might use CCM if a consumer was on the verge of their overdraft, or for utilities companies SMS updates can provide pre-emptive information, for instance if there was an upcoming power outage planned.

Companies also implement CCM in the form of links via SMS when an invoice or a statement has become available on their personal portal, most customers are then able to instantly access this information using their smartphones.

I remember when people started to use SMS instead of talking on the phone and many in the mobile phone industry were surprised at how popular it became. If used in the right way, SMS communication can be an ideal way to reach consumers and ensure a concise and important message is read or directs them to account information that is now available for them to access.

US women roll into Olympics quarters

The United States women's soccer team defeated Colombia 3-0 on July 28 in Group G play. Carli Lloyd, Abby Wambach and Megan Rapinoe scored for the U.S.

United States vs Colombia, Group G

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) ? Abby Wambach's second-half goal put her atop the all-time list Saturday as the Americans dominated feisty Colombia 3-0, guaranteeing a spot in the quarterfinals of the London Games soccer tournament.

Megan Rapinoe scored in the first half and celebrated by wishing injured teammate Ali Krieger a happy birthday, and Carli Lloyd had a late goal in her return to the starting lineup.

But niceties were otherwise few and far between in a game that included 30 fouls ? with no altercation more painful than when Lady Andrade hit Wambach in the face in the 39th minute.

"I'm running toward the goal to get position, and I got sucker-punched," said Wambach, sporting a black semicircle under her swollen right eye after the game. "It's clear. We have it on film, so it's up to the Olympic committee and FIFA to decide what to do."

Wambach said Andrade kept on taunting in the second half and attempted another blow to the face ? but missed and hit Wambach's neck instead. When Wambach scored in the 74th minute to make the score 2-0, the achievement felt particularly sweet.

"Absolutely. It's interesting ? you think about yourself and what you would do on the street if somebody were to sucker-punch you," Wambach said. "And you have all of the lists of things that you would probably do to retaliate, but this is Olympics and I can't risk getting a red card, I can't risk getting a yellow card. We like to call it 'ice' ? stay ice cold. They're trying to get me to retaliate, and I'm proud of myself for not doing that."

Andrade called the play an accident.

"Nothing happened," she said through an interpreter. "It was just a normal part of the game. We were both running, she ran across me and we collided. I had my hands in the air. It was an accident."

Told that Wambach wants Andrade disciplined by the governing bodies, the Colombian said: "I think they should be, too, because they're the United States. The whistle always goes in their favor. They were hitting us and hitting us, but there was never a whistle."

Wambach looked like her younger self on her goal, sliding onto Tobin Heath's pass to beat two defenders. The 32-year-old striker joked that she was using her "blazing speed."

"Nobody puts balls to me like that anymore," Wambach said. "And she put it through. And I'm like, 'I've got to get there.'"

It was Wambach's sixth Olympic goal, moving her past Mia Hamm and Tiffeny Milbrett, an especially notable achievement given that Wambach missed the 2008 Games with a broken leg. It was also her second score of the tournament and her 140th career international goal, within striking range of Hamm's world record of 158.

The Americans didn't have the early defensive letdowns that they had against France in a 4-2 win three days earlier, but coach Pia Sundhage and the players weren't happy with a first half in which they just couldn't find a rhythm.

"It wasn't the prettiest game," goalkeeper Hope Solo said. "We needed that second goal. The speed of play was a little bit slow."

Rapinoe's goal came in the 33rd minute, a play set up when Alex Morgan intercepted a pass near the Colombia box. Morgan passed to Rapinoe, whose curling 20-yarder sailed over goalkeeper Sandra Sepulveda's outstretched hand.

Lloyd scored for the second time in two games as she started in place of Shannon Boxx. Boxx injured her right hamstring in the win over France and remains day-to-day.

The U.S. has one group game remaining against North Korea in Manchester on Tuesday, a match that will help determine the semifinal pairings. Colombia wraps up with France in Newcastle on the same day.

Bikini beach party comes to Downing Street

Bikini-clad women served up a shocker in more ways than one outside the back window of British Prime Minister David Cameron to open London Olympic beach volleyball competition on Saturday.

Horse Guards Parade, a venerable park area dating to 1745 where the Queen's pageantry-filled official birthday party is staged, had nearly 15,000 people packing temporary stands for a spectacle on sand unlike any other.

"You guys are at the most iconic venue," stadium announcer Mark Perkins told the crowd as he encouraged cheers. "Let Mr. Cameron hear you.

"Beach volleyball at Horse Guards Parade -- who would have thought it?"

And in the first match, 2008 Olympic bronze medallists Xue Chen and Zhang Xi of China, ranked second in the world, were upset by Russia's Anastasia Vasina and Anna Vozakova 18-21, 21-14, 16-14.

"The crowd was exciting and first match, I think, we were a little bit nervous," Xue said. "The atmosphere was perfect. We are really enjoying London. We just need to focus. We made too many mistakes. It was more mental."

Whitehall government office buildings loomed in the background along with Cameron's residence at No. 10 Downing Street and the top half of the London Eye ferris wheel.

Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey were just down the road.

"Maybe the Queen heard you then," Perkins enthused after a loud cheer from the crowd.

At the heart of it all were 4,115 tonnes of quarry sand brought from Surrey in 3,483 truckloads where players could spike, dig and smash in quest of gold under sunny skies and cool breezes that could pass for California oceanside.

Matches are played from early morning to midnight, four to a session, with two each of men's and women's volleyball providing something for everyone to enjoy with every ticket.

Sand grains still clung to the players after the match as they talked about an atmosphere that was so fun it was unnerving at the start.

"There were so many people watching us," Vasina said. "In the beginning we were a little bit nervous and excited about it. That's why we lost the first set. The crowd was good. A lot of people were supporting us."

Vasina only laughed and smiled when asked if she hoped Cameron had been watching.

The Russians won the final four points of the match, saving two match points on Vasina blocks and then winning on another Vasina block and a spike by Vozakova.

"The Russians played really great," Zhang said. "There has been a lot of pressure on us and we made a lot of mistakes. We need to focus ourselves and we will be better prepared. We won't look back on this match."

The Chimes of Big Ben rang in the background as the first point began, a block by Xue landing just inside the sideline for a winner by the Chinese duo.

There were no hooligans, no segregated stands for away team supporters, just families and friends cheering on sport for its own sake at the largest venue in Olympic beach volleyball history.

Music from the Beach Boys and peppy dance tunes dominated the moments between the points, including "We Will Rock You" and "Benny Hill" theme music as rakers smoothed over the footprint-filled playing surface during timeouts.

A Hearing Center Can Provide the Right Auditory Aid Devices

If you don?t know what a hearing center is, today you can learn its purpose and what it contains. This type of facility is a place where people with auditory problems can receive diagnosis, treatment, and other solutions. Those who cannot hear properly face communication troubles and a world of other issues. But help is available. One particular method of correction for patients is an auditory aid. These devices are able to improve sound perception in individuals. Technology has allowed for lives to change all due to the function of this aid. Sound can be restored and individuals can become more efficient in life?s daily tasks.

You may be wondering exactly how an auditory aid works. These aids are placed within the ear and increase sound for the individual. Each aid contains a microphone, sound enhancer, and speaker. Each of the parts of this device works together to allow the process of perceiving, increasing volume of sound, and directing it into the ear. And a battery is required for the aid to work. There are different types of auditory aids. Each part is uniquely designed. Some are placed within the ear canal; others are placed behind the ear or in other areas. Every patient has to be tested first. This testing takes place right within the hearing center. This is because each person needs a different level of volume. Testing will ensure that the right device is created for the person. There are also different settings on the aid so that the patient can control the direction or volume of sound. Most aids are small and unnoticeable and will not interfere with fashion.

Auditory aids are made with high quality and usually last several years. There is still research being done to further improve these devices and make them even smaller and more effective. There are other tools that can assist the auditory aid in providing the clearest sound possible for the individual. For example there are certain cell phones designed to help people with auditory difficulties. An accessory can help the sound in certain directions to become louder and enhance the most important sounds that need to be heard, eliminating background noise. The microphones can offer these settings with the aid device.

Perception of sound is very important in every aspect of life. Those who have suffered from auditory loss now have the most state-of-the-art equipment to choose from. A hearing center is where this equipment as well as other treatment can be found. Imagine life with no sound. You would not be able to enjoy simple things like music, conversation, and plenty of other things. For many people this is what life is like. Some people have even suffered sound loss in both of their ears. For some people their original sense can be restored. For others it can become improved. It all depends on the individual. Having good functioning ears is a part of overall wellness. There is no need to give up hope when sound perception is lost. A hearing center can provide the right solution for you.
